The Fun of Baking Bread: Advance Review Copy Day!

This is a milestone day for me! Today I am sending out some Advance Review Copies of a book I have been creating since last November! A Kickstarter campaign will launch this week as well [update: the campaign is underway!], some social media marketing, and the book is set to launch in November.

The writing / recipe development / design / layout / photography has all happened in a kind of mishmash! For example, although I started last year with the goal of writing 500 words a day (in MS Word), a few months later I put together a tentative layout (in InDesign), and since then the actual writing has mostly taken place in the layout, as it has been simultaneously developing. In the case of this book, writing and book design were not separate processes, as is the case for most books.

The book itself is a mishmash of all my weird skills and interests, having an honours degree from the University of Waterloo in Rhetoric & Professional Writing and being a passionate writer. Training and working as a graphic designer (among other activities) for the next 10 years led me, somehow, to a state of design apathy, where I decided to take a year to attend George Brown Chef School and study professional baking ...  and voila!

Right now I'm knee deep in printer quotes, and discussions about the possibility of a short print run...  Thank you to everyone who supported the project and agreeably served as my guinea pigs for recipe testing!

In the future if I create more books, I hope to bring on more collaborators. No one can be good at everything! But for now my goal with this is: FINISHED - NOT PERFECT!
